In a sweeping anti-cybercrime operation, Cambodian authorities have arrested over 3,000 people, among them 105 Indians, in coordinated raids across 138 sites over 15 days, with the Indian government now working to repatriate its citizens, NDTV reports. 

The crackdown, which follows a recent high-level meeting between Indian and Cambodian officials, highlights Cambodia’s emergence as a hub for transnational cyber fraud, often involving foreign nationals. Arrests also included 1,028 Chinese, 693 Vietnamese, 366 Indonesians, and dozens from other countries, while seizures during the raids ranged from tech equipment to weapons, drugs, and counterfeit police uniforms. 

India’s Home Ministry has warned that nationals implicated in such scams abroad will face strict action.

India’s cybercrime investigators from Bidhannagar City Police are preparing to travel to Cambodia and Vietnam to dismantle international scam syndicates linked to a surge in digital arrest frauds that have swindled hundreds in West Bengal, reports *Matrubhumi*. The probe has revealed that Chinese-controlled cartels based in Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand are recruiting South Asians under false job pretenses to operate cybercrime call centres.

With support from Interpol and the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian police are coordinating with local authorities to trace fund flows routed via mule accounts, converted into cryptocurrency, and laundered through accounts in Cambodia, China, Singapore, and Nepal. This transnational crackdown follows India’s first digital arrest conviction, where nine individuals were sentenced for extorting Rs 1 crore via threats over video calls traced to Cambodia. Many victims were targeted in their native languages, and hundreds of Indians recently repatriated from scam compounds are now aiding investigations.

Every cyber fraud has backing from local political parties. They fund politicians heavily during elections so that police wont come after them when caught.

The Indians Cops are focusing on the Centres abroad as these are targeting Indian citizens. But what about all the Call Centres on Indian soil that are targeting other countries? No problem, because these local gangs put money in the back-pockets of Indian Inspectors and Authorities...

If law enforcement had any evidence of child porn, you would already be in jail, they certainly wouldn't email you.

These lowlifes tell the victim that they can make the charges go away if they send them bitcoin or gift cards. You will find 100s of posts by people that have received the same email or text in this subreddit's archives.

Just so you know automatically in the future,  looking at the domain name can be an instant tell. That's the part after the @. If it doesn't match your government's domain name, then it's definitely bullshit. 

Of course, the domain can be faked in an email, so if it does have a government domain, it doesn't automatically make it real. But the government is never going to email you from Gmail or any other public domain.

Ha ha ha. Laugh and delete. The sender email is some ridiculous one on a German domain. The reply email is some nonsense address at one of those new domains anyone can access. No actual country is mentioned. And a real court or police bureau wouldn't send an email.

The police generally freeze accounts under S. 102 of CrPC / S.106 of BNSS. You will need to file an application before the magistrate to get your account unfrozen. 

On a side note, it is quite disturbing to see police freeze victims account in such cases.
